Our Club

Our club provides competitive and social netball opportunities for all participants who want to play, umpire or coach, and welcomes all ages and levels of experience and ability.

Our club values friendship, community spirit, teamwork and respect towards all members – from our volunteers to our umpires, parents and players.

Our volunteers are active and engaged members of our organisation, and we are grateful for their outstanding contributions to the development of netball within Ladybirds. Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do!

History

The Ladybirds Netball Club was formed in 1972 by John and Robyn Dunn, along with Kay Pugsley. Games were originally played at courts located at Bice Oval, Christie's Beach from 1974 through to 1976. In 1976 the Southern United Netball Association (SUNA) was formed. From 1976 to 1978 games were played at courts at Jordan Drive in Morphett Vale, before moving to the current location on Sports Park Drive in 1978.  Ladybirds joined SUNA in 1976, taking out multiple premierships in the 1976/1977 summer season competition.

We have had some incredible players come through our doors at Ladybirds including former Australian players Natalie and Laura von Bertouch. Current Thunderbirds 11th player Tyler Orr also started her netball career at the Ladybirds Netball Club.

In 2021, SUNA went through a $2.8 million redevelopment, upgrading the complex to 18 courts with state-of-the-art lighting installed. The new courts and lighting mean SUNA, our home courts are now the best facility in the state in terms of playability.
